How are you? Today I will talk about how the things are going with my new host family in Long Island NY, since I got here on 23rd September 2018!

Como vocês estão: Hoje vou falar um pouco de como as coisas estão indo com a nova família anfitriã em Long Island Nova Iorque desde que cheguei aqui em 23 de Setembro de 2018.

Well, the schedule change a lot, the boys have a bunch of games and practices but most of the time I just need to handle with the youngest. I have to cook for them, clean up after them, tidy the things I use for me and for them. Generally, my schedule starts with 1) 650am leave the house and drop off the two adolescents to the high school, 2) 720am tidy up their bedrooms in the morning, 3) 745am wake up the youngest, prepare the youngest breakfast, 4) 820am prepare his lunch for that day school, 5) 845am send him to the bus.

<PT> Bom, a rotina muda sempre, os garotos tem uma gama de jogos e prática mas na maioria das vezes eu só preciso lidar com o menor. Eu tenho que cozinhar, limpar depois deles e manter as coisas que eu uso para mim e pare eles no lugar. Geralmente a rotina começa com 1) 6h50 sair de casa e deixar os adolescentes na escola, 2) 7h20 manter o quarto deles arrumado pela manhã, 3) 7h45 acordar o menor e preparar o café da manhã pra ele, 4) 8h20 Prepara o almoço pra ele, 5) 8h45 Colocar o menino no ônibus.

Around this time is 9 am, so I put their clothes in the machine and then I can have my "time off", although most of the time I just spent at home, so I used to burn my duties during the day folding the clothes after the dryer machine is done. I did it for 2 weeks but now I got a new schedule that is 6) put the clothes to the machine after dropped the youngest to the bus, 7) Off time.

<PT> Nesse tempo ja é 9h da manhã, eu coloco as deles na máquina e entao eu tenho meu "tempo de folga", apesar de eu na maioria das vezes apenas gastar o tempo em casa, eu estava queimando esse tempo durante o dia para dobrar as roupas depois que a secadora terminasse. Eu fiz isso por 2 semanas, mas agora eu tenho uma nova rotina que é basicamente 6) colocar as roupas na maquina depois de deixar o menor no onibus, 7) ficar de folga.

I was so sad those weeks, without my friends everything is hard and the day a day makes me feel I'm getting older and not making money enough with all these great time I'm having here in America.
I know the Au Pair program is something low paid for the amount of worked hours per week (like 45h) and the responsibility we need to have around the kids, driving, picking them, making food, and being a little mom in general etc. But I put myself in these shoes and then I need to accomplish what I got as my plan one year ago... sadly

<PT> Eu estava tão triste essas semanas, sem meus amigos tudo fica dificil e o dia a dia me faz sentir que estou ficando velha e não fazendo dinheiro suficiente com todo esse bom tempo que tenho aqui na America. Eu sei que o program de Au Pair é algo baixo pago para o tanto de horas que trabalho por semana (como 45h) e a responsabilidade que preciso ter ao redor das crianças dirigindo, pegando eles, fazendo comida e sendo uma mini-mãe em geral etc. Mas eu me coloquei nesse lugar então preciso realizar o que eu defini como meu plano um ano atrás... tristemente.

Well but coming back to my schedule. I used to start at 330pm this entire week, once I was sad enough to just sleep and trying to forget everything that really is hurting me now during my "time off". So basically it was 8) 330pm pick up the yougest from the bus, 9) prepare him some food, 10) follow the schedule for the day after his homework.

<PT> Bom mas voltando à minha rotina. Eu comecei às 3h30 da tarde essa semana toda, uma vez que estava muito triste o suficiente para dormir e tentar esquecer tudo o que esta realmente me ferindo por agora durante a minha "folga". Então basicamente era 8) 15h30 pegar o menino no ônibus, 10) prepar à ele alguma comida, 10) seguir a rotina do dia.

Generally, his schedule is just to drop him to the soccer field where he has some practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly. We have to spend time together when I don't need to drop him off at the Hebrew Temple or the Flag football randomly during the others weekly days.

<PT> Geralmente a rotina dele é apenas deixá-lo no campo de futbol onde ele tem prática nas Terças-feiras e nas Quintas-Feiras semanalmente. Eu tenho que gastar tempo junto com ele quando eu não preciso deixá-lo no templo Hebreu ou no Futbol Americano de Bandeira randomicamente durante os outros dias da semana.

Feeling lonely Without My Girls

Hello, guys.

Today happened something so strange at my host home in Long Island, NY.
After work, I went to my room to rest, and after my shower, I was brushing my teeth and I listened to my host parents screaming.

<PT> Hoje aconteceu algo muito estranho na minha casa anfitriã em Long Island, Nova Iorque.
Depois do trabalho, eu fui para o meu quarto descansar e depois do meu banho, eu estava escovando o meu dente e ouvi meus pais anfitriãs gritando.

Actually, the host dad was screaming with her. I couldn't listen very well but it was something related with the groceries at home.

<PT> Na verdade o pai estava gritando com ela. Eu não consegui ouvir muito bem, mas era alguma coisa relacionada com a comida em casa.

Suddenly he came close to my door and screamed: "I won't accept your excuses".
Seriously? I don't know but I felt it was with me. Once I'm the only one living downstairs. Like Harry Potter.

First Week in Long Island - Primeira semana em Long Island

Today I came with more information about my first week in Long Island, New York, for people that wanna know more how is to be an au pair in the USA and also discover more about this place where I'm living now.

<PT> Hoje vim com mais informações sobre minha primeira semana em Long Island, Nova Iorque, para aqueles que querem saber mais sobre como é ser uma Au Pair nos EUA e também descobrir mais sobre o lugar onde estou vivendo agora.

My week started at 11:30am on Monday and I worked with some errands inside the house, once my new host kids are adolescent and sportive, what makes them spend a lot of time in the activities in the school.

<PT> Minha semana começou às 11:30 da manhã na Segunda-feira e trabahei com algumas coisas de casa, uma vez que minhas novas crianças anfitriãs são adolescentes e esportivas, o que faz com que eles gastem muito tempo com as atividades na escola.

Generally, I spend around 3 hours to do all the laundry and also clean the deashes, swipe the land on the kitchen and arrange their beds and bedrooms. Once all those duties are done I have my off time. This week was a little hard for me, 'cause my biological watch wasn't in the same time zone I'm now, I was living in Oregon and it is kind of 3 hours of difference from here, what do everything look so early.

<PT> Geralmente, eu gasto por volta de 3 horas para fazer a roupa e também limpar os pratos, limpar a ilha no meio da cozinha e arrumar o quarto deles. Uma vez que todas as minhas obrigações estao feitas eu tenho o meu tempo de folga. Essa semana foi um pouco difícil para mim, porque o meu relógio biológico não estava na mesmo horário que estou agora, eu estava morando em Oregon e é tipo 3 horas de diferença daqui, o que faz com que tudo pareça tão cedo do que o normal.

I just slept during my off time this week. My body was so tired with every change in the schedule and also the trip that was 7 hours flying from the est coast to the west coast of the USA. I really just slept in my room in the basement (what makes it be so dark and comfy).

<PT> Eu só dormi durante meu tempo de folga essa semana. Meu corpo estava tão cansado com todas as mudanças de rotina e também com a viagem que foi 7 horas voando de costa leste para a costa oeste dos Estados Unidos. Eu realmente só dormi no meu quarto no porão (o que faz com que ele seja muito escuro e confortável).

The family has 3 kids, two adolescent and one in the middle school. They also have two dogs (brown Labradoodles) a female and male ones. They are so cute and I feel that they already love me hahaha!

<PT> A familia tem três crianças, duas adolescentes e uma na escola fundamental. Eles também tem dois cachorros (Labradoodles marrons) uma fêmea e um macho. Eles são tão fofos e eu sinto que eles já me amam ahahaha.

I spent a lot of time with the dogs, what made us closer to each other. I need to fill the dogs food and also put them to go outside (backyard) just to prevent they pee inside the house. Sometimes they drive me crazy when every 10 minutes they are asking me to put them out, and then after 15 minutes, they ask me to put them inside. Ouch.

<PT> Eu gastei muito tempo com os cachorros, o que fez da jeito próximos um do outro. Eu preciso preencher a comida deles e também colocá-los do lado de fora (no jardim) só para prevenir deles fazerem xixi dentro de casa. Algumas vezes eles me deixam louca, quando a cada 10 minutos eles me pedem para colocá-los para fora e entao depois de 15 minutos eles me pedem novamente para colocá-los para dentro. Aiiiiin.

During the week I dropped the adolescent off the school and I received the youngest at home when he arrived by bus. I don't use to cook too much like last year, but he likes chicken nuggets and pasta. So it is easy to feed him and also the adolescents that are always ordering food.

<PT> Durante a semana eu deixei os adolescentes na escola e recepcionei o menor em casa quando ele chegou com o ônibus. Eu não costumo cozinhar muito como no ano passado. Mas ele gosta de chicken nuggets e macarrão. Então é fácil alimentá-lo e também os adolescentes que estão sempre pedindo comida.

Well, it was my first week here with the boys and I really liked it.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

During the classes on July 28-29th in Washington D.C we could experience seeing the memorial honoring the men and women who served in the controversial Vietnam War, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial chronologically lists the names of more than 58,000 Americans who gave their lives in service to their country.

It is an emotionally stirring memorial that pays tribute to the men and women who served in one of America's most controversial wars.

 The instructor commented that near the end of a weeklong national salute to Americans who served in the Vietnam War, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is dedicated in Washington after a march to its site by thousands of veterans of the conflict. As also the references says , “the long-awaited memorial was a simple V-shaped black-granite wall inscribed with all the soldiers’ names, it is arranged in order of death and also it has some Diamonds and other plus signals that tell us something special about them, it isn’t a rank, as was common in other memorials. The black stones reflect your face on them and give you the idea to “bring the past and present together with names”.

 As the instructor told as the designer of the memorial was Maya Lin, a Yale University architecture student who entered a nationwide competition to create a design for the monument, she got a B in those work, what was interesting once it is now a global memorial.

Lin, born in Ohio in 1959, was the daughter of Chinese immigrants. Many veterans’ groups were opposed to Lin’s winning design, which lacked a standard memorial’s heroic statues and stirring words. But a fact that is interesting is the memorial starts in the middle, in 1959, follow to the right and finishing reading from the left to the middle again. However, a remarkable shift in public opinion occurred in the months after the memorial’s dedication. Veterans and families of the dead walked the black reflective wall, seeking the names of their loved ones killed in the conflict. Once the name was located, visitors often made an etching or left a private offering, from notes and flowers to dog tags and cans of beer.

 The Vietnam Veterans Memorial soon became one of the most visited memorials in the nation’s capital, second the references. A Smithsonian Institution director called it “a community of feelings, almost a sacred precinct,” and a veteran declared that “it’s the parade we never got.” “The Wall” drew together both those who fought and those who marched against the war and served to promote national healing a decade after with the divisive conflict’s end.

 The memorial counts with eight women’s names as the instructor commented and second the references it was designed by Glenna Goodacre for the women of the United States who served in the Vietnam War. Before Goodacre's design was selected, two design entries had been awarded as co-finalists - one a statue and the other a setting - however, the two designs were unable to be reconciled Glenna Goodacre's entry received an honorable mention in the contest and she was asked to submit a modified maquette (design model). Goodacre's original design for the Women's Memorial statue included a standing figure of a nurse holding a Vietnamese baby, which although not intended as such, was deemed a political statement, and it was asked that this is removed. She replaced them with a figure of a kneeling woman holding an empty helmet. On November 11, 1993, the Vietnam Women's Memorial was dedicated. There is a smaller replica of that memorial at Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park in Angel Fire, New Mexico.

 Like the reference says it is located at 200 S. 9th Ave in Pensacola, FL the first permanent replica of the National Vietnam Memorial was unveiled on October 24, 1992. Now known as "Wall South," the half-size replica bears the names of all Americans killed or missing in Southeast Asia and is updated each Mother's Day with no difference about gender, nature or religion.

The resource shows us that It is the centerpiece of Veterans Memorial Park Pensacola, a five-and-one-half acre site overlooking Pensacola Bay, which also includes a World War I Memorial, a World War II Memorial, a Korean War Memorial, a Revolutionary War Memorial and a running series of plaques to honor local warriors who have fallen in the Global War on Terror. Like we can see there is also a Purple Heart Memorial, a Marine Corps Aviation Bell Tower and a monument to the submarine lifeguards who rescued Navy pilots in World War II. A Global War on Terror Memorial is planned to be completed in 2017 and will include an artifact from the World Trade Center as a component of the sculpture.

Located in Fox Park in Wildwood, New Jersey, The Wildwoods Vietnam Memorial Wall was unveiled and dedicated on May 29, 2010. The memorial wall is an almost half-size granite replica of the National Vietnam Memorial, and the only permanent memorial north of the nation's capital.

Au Pair Education - Essay WH-1 / First Topic

In this post, I wanna share with you the essay I wrote for my education evaluation at the University of Virgin Islands in Washington DC.

It was mandatory and some of the complex once we need to read and understand about the American history. I'm sharing with you cause I think it can be useful for you that wanna know more about the US and its history.

WH-1 / First Topic[1] Part 1

US Embassy takeover in Tehran – The Iran Hostage Crisis

A dramatic way for some Iranian student revolutionaries to take a break with Iran’s past and also an end to the American Interference in its affairs, was given in the fall of 1979 (to be exactly on November 4th), when the U.S. Embassy  was stormed in Tehran and a total of 90 people was hostages, being 66 Americans. This episode changed the way of Amerian history.

It was the combination of the several decades of a relationship between The United States and Iran but the timeline for this crisis started in August 1953 with the U.S. Assists in Iran Coup D’ETAT when Mohammad Reza Shah, or for short The Shah, became a brutal dictator and whose his intimacy terrorized and tortured people in Iran. Second CNN website, In 1978 “Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi's authoritarian rule sparks demonstrations and riots”.

The Iran history changed when in January 1979 The Shah Family left his country for “vacations” in Egypt but never returned. By the Spring, March 1979, that year a religious leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini takes the country power, which started The Iranian Revolution. He established a new form of government in the Islamic Republic, who showed no respect for the United States.

In April 1979 after following massive approval in a national referendum, the Islamic Republic of Iran was proclaimed.

After a cancer diagnostic, the Shah flew from Egypt to The United States for treatment. In those days the U.S. power was under President Jimmy’s hands and after some pressure for his committee, the President allowed Shah to enter in the country.

Afterward, the hostage-taking was much about more than Iran’s ex-President medical care, when he arrived on October 1979 at New York Hospital, the Iranian student revolutionaries got angry demanding the extradition of the Shah from the United States, which started on November 1979 a huge protest, with climbing over of the walls of the U.S. Embassy In Tehran and also taking the staff, ranging from the Chargé d’Affaires to the most junior member, as hostages.

The US Embassy should have been better prepared for the attack, the terrorist group was only students and in some point of view, the Carter administration must be negotiated at gunpoint to protect the Embassy staff’s lives of the hostage and the principle that the United States didn’t have its national policy dictated by threat or blackmail.

The group of students was about 450 young Iranians and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the actual Slamic President, and other in his chaotic regime, who disliked Shah, issued a statement supporting for the students’ actions.

A day after the crisis started the Iranian government canceled military treaties with the U.S. and the Soviet Union, those ones that would permit The United States or Soviet military intervention.

President Jimmy Carter sent former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and Senate Intelligence Committee staff to Iran to negotiate the release of the hostages but Ayatollah Khomeini refuses to meet with them, what made the things more difficult for The United State. With that, U.S. president ordered Iranian assets in U.S. banks to be frozen.

After 13 days of the hostage, the group got a message from Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who was the anti-American cleric, to release of 13 hostages; some of them were female and African-American.

In April 1980, eight U.S. servicemen were killed in a helicopter accident colliding with a transport plane during a failed attempt to rescue the hostages. This episode earned a risky military rescue mission known as Operation Eagle Claw.

With 53 hostages remaining, the group has some problem with one them who was sick and needed some medical care. He was also released. Now with 52 hostages, anyone being killed but also not being treated well, The United Nations Security Council started calling for Iran to release the hostages. Between that time Shah left the United States for Panama, and on March 1980, he returned to Egypt.

President Carter in attempting to do something cut diplomatic ties with Iran, he announced further sanctions and ordered all Iranian diplomats to leave the United States.

In July 1980, The Shah dies of cancer in Egypt and in September of the same year Ayatollah Khomeini set new terms for the hostages’ release, it also included the return of the late Shah’s wealth and the unfreezing of Iranian assets.

Between November 1980 and January 1981, the Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher and his delegation worked through mediators in Algeria to negotiate the release of the hostages and in the same month, The United States and Iran signed an agreement to release the hostages and also unfroze Iranian Assets.

The American diplomats were hostage by the Iranians students for 444 days. On January 20, 1981, all the hostages were released and they have flown to Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany and In December 2015, the Congress passed a budget bill that included some provision authorizing each of the 53 hostages to receive $10,000 for each day they were held captive. Thirty-nine years ago and with it was a way to raise the intra/international profile of the revolution’s leader thru American view.

This crisis also dominated the headlines and news broadcasts which made the Administration look week and ineffectual. The release of the hostages was just hours after President Ronald Reagan got the US power, the 40th U.S. president title, which makes many historians believe that hostage crisis cost Jimmy Carter a second term as president once he has defeated in the U.S Presidential Election on November 4, 1980.

One fact that was interesting is that Iran celebrates the embassy takeover as an official Holiday, that has a tradition of every Wednesday in Tehran, tens of thousands show up to hear anti-American speeches.

In November 2016, thousands of Iranians have burned the American flag and chanted anti-US. The main problem between Washington and Tehran is because any country wants to declare lost for what has happened, that means that the two countries have had no diplomatic relations since then. Switzerland is The United States protection power and it provides limited consular services to U.S. citizens in Iran, on another hand, Iran has no embassy in Washington

Well, I arrived at my host parent's house on Sep/29. It was on a Friday night. I took 7h30 of fly. I flew from NY to Denver and so to Eugene. The airport is pretty close from our house and everything here in Eugene is close too!

I'm a lover by bicycles so here I can ride for everywhere! I went to Springfield three days ago and I spend about 40min bicycling! Soooooo amazing!

Well, I'm trying to do some friends here and I'm downloading a lot of dating, chat and other stuffs that can help me find more people to talk and so improve my English speaking.
